Meditation for Palestine will offer the early riser a unique opportunity to simply sit with the people of Palestine in body, mind and heart. Beginning each day at 7:30am and formally ending at 9am. There will be chairs and some mats and cushions will be available. If people need to go to work or slip out before the end they can be easily facilitated and should come along. No formal experience necessary, all welcome.
On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning Vajrashura will explore two forms of meditation, the mindfulness of breathing and the cultivation of loving kindness. Vajrashura is a member of the Triratna Buddhist Order, and manager of the Dublin Buddhist Centre. He is one of the main meditation and Buddhism teachers in the Dublin Buddhist Centre, and is passionate about the possibilities for change that meditation can offer people living in the modern world.
On Saturday morning Brother Richard Hendrick a friar of the Capuchin Franciscan Order will specialize in the Christian Meditative Tradition and its links to modern mindfulness theory. Brother Richard has worked to develop many programs centered on Mindfulness Practice including meditation for young people and teacher training programs delivered through the Sanctuary Centre in Dublin’s north inner city.

On Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning Estelle Birdy will lead Yoga for Palestine. Estelle Birdy is a Yoga Teacher and Director at The Olive Tree Studio Dublin. She believes that yoga is less about Lycra and the body beautiful and more about truth and fairness both to ourselves and in the wider world.
Yoga for Palestine will be suitable for all levels, ages and abilities. The yoga class will last for an hour and a half. No formal experience necessary, all welcome. Class will begin at 10am and will finish with a long relaxation, after which we will have a short pause and then remain lying or sitting to listen to ‘Freedom on the Mat’, an Irish-produced radio documentary until 12.30pm.

Muireann de Barra’s radio documentary ‘Freedom on the Mat’ speaks of how women are using Yoga in Palestine as a means of accessing personal and collective relief from the every-day stresses and injustice of life under illegal Israeli Military occupation. The documentary reveals the lives of ordinary Palestinians, struggling with the oppression of occupation and how their yoga and meditation practice helps them find inner peace in the midst of that stress. Running time 45 mins.
